My favourite group

I like pop-music. My favourite group is the Beatles.

My favourite group

On the 24-th of October 1962,’ Love Me Do’, entered the British top thirty. It was the first single by an unknown gro from Liverpool called the Beatles. It was the first of a number of big hits that would make John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr the most successful group the world has ever known.

During the 1960s, the Beatles were always in the news, headlines, films, world tours and sometimes scandal. After a decade of successful music and films, the Beatles finally decided to break up in the early seventies, after public disagreements about money and personalities. Although many fans hoped there would be a reunion throughout the 1970s this became impossible with the tragic murder of John Lennon in New York in 1980. The surviving Beatles are still deeply involved in musical and film projects, but many fans still long for the music of the 60s.

At a student exhibition of 1880 Pavel Tretyakov bought the nineteen- year old artist’s painting ‘Autumn Day at Sokolniky’ This was «the first recognition of his talent. My favourite film

My favourite film is ‘Repentence’ by Abuladze. "Repentence" is a skilful and beautifully filmed allegory.

My favourite film

The story is simple enough. Varlaam Aravidze, a renowned local leader, dies and is buried amid general mourning. But the coffin is later dug up and the body propped up against a tree. This incident is repeated several times until the person responsible is brought to trial. The film is her story, of why she refused to Set Varlaam Aravidze rest in peace. And her story is horrible. Once the local cultural figures, the artist among them, come to Varlaam to plead for the town’s temple to be saved. Soon after the artist and then his wife are taken away by Varlaam’s secret police.

This incident, like all others in the film, is based on fact.

Tragic, yet optimistic, with elements of the surrealistic the film is more powerful than any documentary historical narration could possibly have been.

As Abuladze says: ‘The action of the film takes place in all times and everywhere. But .it is no secret that we have a dark page in our history’.

Many different interpretations of this play exist. The source of the plot can be found in a Danish chronicle written about 1200. When we first see Hamlet he is grieved by the death of his father and shocked for Claudius. Hamlet sincerely wants to kill Claudius. This is a natural course of action for a tragic hero. But Hamlet delays. He slew Claudius only when he was poisoned himself. The name of Hamlet is often used to describe contradictory and indecisive people.

My favourite author is William Shakespeare. He was born in 1564 in Straiford-upon-Avon.
